AG-UI (Agent–User Interaction) is an open, lightweight, event-based protocol and software ecosystem that standardizes bi-directional communication between user-facing applications and agentic backends, enabling agents to work inside frontends and apps with streaming state, generative UI, tools, and human-in-the-loop interactions.
