Codex adds banked rate-limit resets for Go, Plus, Pro, and Business

OpenAI started rolling out bankable Codex resets to Go, Plus, Pro, and Business users, plus a two-week referral program that can add more resets. That lets users save capacity for heavier Browser use and longer Codex sessions instead of losing resets on a fixed clock.

TL;DR

  • OpenAI’s announcement says Codex users on Go, Plus, Pro, and Business are getting one banked rate-limit reset they can save for later, instead of burning it on the platform’s schedule.
  • The two-week referral promo in OpenAI’s thread and gdb’s post lets eligible Plus and Pro users invite up to three friends, and each friend’s first Codex message earns both sides another banked reset.
  • The Codex changelog frames the feature as part of Codex app 26.609, and notes that Business referrals are a separate program tied to shared workspace credits, not the same personal-plan reset reward.

You can read the short community post announcing flexible resets, the fuller Codex changelog entry, and the settings docs, which quietly show where invites live in the product menu.

Banked resets

OpenAI’s core change is simple: Codex resets are becoming something you can hold and spend later.

The company’s community post says the team had been manually resetting weekly limits around milestones or bug fixes. The new system turns that into a user-controlled banked reset, starting with one free reset for Go, Plus, Pro, and Business accounts.

Referral window

The extra-reset mechanic is temporary, and narrower than the headline rollout.

According to OpenAI’s thread, Plus and Pro users can invite up to three friends through June 24. When an invited friend sends a first Codex message, both accounts get another banked reset.

The settings docs say invites are sent from the Codex profile menu, with separate options to invite a friend on an eligible personal plan or a coworker in an eligible Business workspace.

Codex app 26.609

The reset change shipped inside a wider Codex app update, not as a standalone quota tweak.

The official changelog lists rate-limit reset banking under Codex app 26.609 alongside Developer mode for Browser use with controlled Chrome DevTools Protocol access, deeper debugging for network and runtime issues, and a new /init command in the app composer. That same entry also says eligible Business members can invite coworkers for shared workspace credits through a separate referral program.
