OpenAI doubles Pro and Business Premium usage limits
OpenAI announced doubled usage limits for Pro and Business Premium plans. Existing Pro 200 subscribers keep their current Work and Codex allowances without cuts.

TL;DR
- Pro 100, Pro 500 and Business Premium get twice their previous usage allowance, effective immediately, under OpenAI's announcement.
- Pro 200's planned cut is canceled: the follow-up clarification confirms that subscribers already on the higher Work and Codex allowance keep it.
- Dots retain extended limits and separate usage accounting “for now,” according to the rollout update.
Some $200 accounts get a fresh doubling; others get an avoided cut, as OpenAI's release notes explain. Ultrafast still burns allowance at eight times the Standard rate.
Pro allowances
The October 29 increase covers Pro 100, Pro 200, Pro 500 and Business Premium.
For Pro subscriptions, the plan breakdown expresses the allowances relative to Plus:
- Pro 100, $100/month: 5x → 10x.
- Pro 200, $200/month: 10x → 20x for accounts on the lower allowance. Accounts already at 20x stay there.
- Pro 500, $500/month: 25x → 50x.
The canceled Pro 200 reduction originated in a September 29 email, according to the release notes. Avoiding the $200 downgrade is the biggest win here.
Existing subscribers receive the updated allowance automatically, without waiting for renewal, according to the Pro tier guide. New and returning Pro 200 subscribers receive the same allowance; monthly Pro prices and Plus usage remain unchanged.
Work, Codex and dots
Work and Codex draw from one shared plan allowance. Two other meters remain separate:
- GPT-6 Pro in Chat: its own message limits, separate from Work and Codex.
- Dots: extended limits, with usage counted separately from default usage “for now.”
WesRoth also raised the possibility of a shared ChatGPT/Codex limit. The documented arrangement already pools Work and Codex while preserving separate GPT-6 Pro chat limits.
Speed modes
Speed mode changes how quickly the same model consumes its allowance. OpenAI's Pro tier guide specifies:
- Standard: the baseline rate.
- Fast: 2.5x the Standard allowance consumption rate.
- Ultrafast: 8x the Standard allowance consumption rate, then 6x the Standard credit rate after included usage is exhausted.
Among Pro plans, Ultrafast remains exclusive to Pro 500. Purchasing credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 does not unlock it.
OpenAI explicitly says a larger allowance does not guarantee twice as many completed tasks.
Codex valued at API prices
Valuing Codex's weekly allowances at API rates, theo estimated that GPT-6.1 Sol capacity works out to roughly 21 times either plan's monthly subscription price.
Actual API usage is billed separately, according to OpenAI's usage guide.
Credit grants
Before the reversal, koltregaskes reported a one-time grant of 62,500 credits for Pro 200 subscribers, valued at about $2,500 and expiring December 31.
A separate API credits benefit lets eligible Pro and Business subscribers activate promotional credits for one linked API organization. That grant does not increase ChatGPT or signed-in Codex allowances, personal usage-credit balances, or Business workspace credit balances.
