TL;DR

  • Meng To says he built a free-to-play, Catan-inspired multiplayer game in four days, while MengTo's launch post puts the token bill at hundreds of dollars.
  • The build includes narration, guides, customizations, expansions, a public lobby, text chat, and voice chat, according to MengTo's feature list.
  • Meng To describes all assets but the robber as part of the build in MengTo's asset reply, and calls the game “pretty much all procedural” in his procedural note.
  • Narration was designed as an onboarding feature: MengTo's reply calls it especially useful for new players.

The public Settlecoast game gives four settlers a race to 10 points on Sunmere Island. Its field guide opens with a concrete board-game tip: settle near 6s and 8s for stronger income.

Settlecoast's 10-point loop

The URL in MengTo's post resolves to Settlecoast, a 3D strategy board game whose landing page describes gathering resources, trading, and building roads and cities. Meng To calls the project Catan-inspired, while the game gives its island and ruleset their own names.

Four days and token spend

Meng To’s initial post gives the build a four-day timeline and says it consumed hundreds of dollars in tokens. When asked for a number, he answered “roughly 200” in a follow-up from MengTo, without adding a unit or cost breakdown.

OpenAI lists Astra across ChatGPT Work, Codex, and its API, but Meng To does not identify the surface, prompts, code, model settings, or deployment architecture behind this project. MengTo's reply acknowledges an unspecified suggestion, while his other reply only calls the current capabilities of Astra “crazy.”

Procedural board and assets

Meng To said every asset except the robber was included in the AI-made production pass in MengTo's asset reply. He separately described the game as “pretty much all procedural” in his procedural note, again singling out the robber as the exception.

He also said Astra stays consistent at “xHigh” in another MengTo reply, without defining that setting.

Lobby, voice, and mobile play

Meng To’s feature list claims a broader product layer around the board game:

  • Mobile-friendly play
  • Narration and player guides
  • Customizations and multiple expansions
  • A lobby anyone can join
  • Text chat and voice chat

After posting the demo, he said in MengTo's mobile-play reply that he had been playing it at the beach with friends on their phones and that it worked well.

ElevenLabs narration

The thread eventually names the narration stack: MengTo's audio reply says it uses ElevenLabs for generation, which he characterized as paid but “not expensive.” That supplier detail does not appear in the original feature list.
