Foreman installs read-only X monitoring bots with one sign-in and a spend cap

GlennHasABeard released Foreman to install selected read-only X monitoring bots through one sign-in with a spend cap. A separate Follow Audit template identifies inactive accounts and tracks unfollowers without automatically unfollowing anyone.

TL;DR

The Foreman template advertises eight helpers that never post, follow or DM, a welcome limit on social automation. The separate Follow Audit template also catches dormant and deleted accounts.

Foreman

A week before publishing the bots, GlennHasABeard was checking replies and unfollowers by hand. Foreman bundles installation so users can select their helpers and set a shared daily X API spend cap.

The underlying X connector creates a developer account when one is needed. xAI says paid Grok Bot users receive starter X API credits.

Mention Radar

Mention Radar hides replies Glenn has already liked or answered and puts verified mutuals first, he said in his build log.

Follow Audit

Follow Audit returns review lists covering three checks, as GlennHasABeard explains:

  • Inactive, dormant or deleted accounts.
  • Accounts the user follows that do not follow back.
  • Accounts that have unfollowed the user.

In his earlier Headcount workflow, the bot checked accounts flagged as quiet against their actual posts. Glenn then reduced his following list from 3,394 to 3,316 himself.

Tally

Tally reads X analytics morning and night, saving timestamped exports and each post's numbers on every pull. By day three, Glenn reported 974 posts tracked; the bot also tracked which day would next drop out of the rolling 90-day window.

Results land on a private page styled to match his own site. Grok Bot runs the bots, while Claude writes the scripts.

X API costs

In an earlier six-bot cost breakdown, Glenn reported $13.96 spent so far. About $12 went toward setup, trials, a full follower scan and backfilling 3,235 old posts.

His published schedule and approximate per-run costs were:

  • Mention Radar: twice daily, $0.20 per run.
  • Creator Scout: every morning, $0.45 per run.
  • Warm Leads: Mondays and Thursdays, $0 in additional API usage because it reuses Mention Radar's data.
  • Shoutout Desk: Mondays, $0.20 per run.
  • Rerun Picker: Mondays, $0.02 per run.
  • Headcount: manually triggered every three months, about $6.50 per scan.

He estimated normal operation at roughly $1 a day, or $30 a month, for that six-bot setup. The private dashboard was hosted on Cloudflare's free tier.

The scripts estimate costs before each run. Glenn said those estimates had run high, with actual X charges consistently landing at the low end.

Pinned releases

Each template is pinned to a specific GitHub release and checks a checksum before installation. Glenn says new versions ship as new releases with new template links, so installed copies do not change silently.

Notifications about newer releases, followed by a user choice to update, are something he wants to add next.
