Magnific adds Photoshop plugin controls for 4K upscaling and relighting
Magnific says its Photoshop plugin adds 4K upscaling, relighting, camera control, skin enhancement, and searchable access to Magnific creations and stock assets. The controls run inside the Photoshop editor.

TL;DR
- Magnific is pushing more of its image stack into Photoshop: Magnific's thread lists five in-editor controls, led by upscaling, relighting, camera moves, portrait cleanup, and asset search.
- The upscaler is the production workhorse: 2x, 4x, and 8x enlargement to 4K runs without leaving the edit, according to Magnific's upscale demo.
- Relight and camera control move post-shot fixes into the same panel: Magnific's relight post covers light direction and color, while its camera-control demo shows rotate, tilt, and zoom from one frame.
- Portrait finishing gets its own control: Magnific's skin-enhancer post says the tool sharpens and adds smart grain on the active sequence.
- The plugin also turns Photoshop into a Magnific browser: the stock-and-creations demo shows searchable access to previous creations and the stock library.
Magnific's linked [plugin page]plugin page says generated results save to Magnific history and use the same credits as the web app. The broader Image Upscaler docs split Magnific's upscaling into Creative and Precision modes, while the Relight docs describe manual virtual lights, reference lighting transfer, and controls for direction, elevation, color, and intensity.
Five Photoshop controls
Magnific bundled the plugin update as five things creators can do from inside Photoshop:
- Upscale to 4K: 2x, 4x, or 8x enlargement from the current frame, per Magnific's upscale demo.
- Relight: choose light direction and color on the frame already open, per Magnific's relight post.
- Camera control: rotate, tilt, and zoom around a subject after the shot, per Magnific's camera-control demo.
- Skin enhancer: sharpen skin detail and add smart grain with in-editor controls, per Magnific's skin-enhancer post.
- Stock and creations: search Magnific creations and the stock library inside Photoshop, per Magnific's stock demo.
The useful shift is boring in the best way: less export-and-upload friction for finishing work that already happens in Photoshop.
4K upscale
Magnific's tweet frames the Photoshop upscaler around broadcast-ready enlargement: 2x, 4x, and 8x from a blurry frame to 4K.
The web docs add two knobs behind that headline. Magnific's Image Upscaler docs describe Creative mode for AI-added detail and Precision mode for more faithful reproduction, with up to 16x upscaling in the broader Magnific editor. Magnific's credit docs list Premium-plan costs for Magnific upscale at 90 credits for 2K, 360 for 4K, and 1,440 for 8K.
Relight and camera control
Relight changes the light after capture: direction and color are the two controls Magnific called out in the Photoshop demo.
Magnific's Relight docs describe the full version as a virtual studio for images and videos, with manual lights, a 3D preview, intensity controls, and light transfer from a reference image.
Camera control is the weirder tool. Magnific says it can rotate, tilt, and zoom around the subject from the same frame, and its image-node docs describe Change Camera Angle as an AI perspective edit that fills unseen parts of the scene.
Skin enhancer
Magnific's Photoshop post puts the skin tool on two tactile controls: sharpening and smart grain.
Magnific's Image Editor docs give the fuller portrait setup: Creative, Faithful, and Flexible modes, with Flexible presets for enhance skin, improve lighting, enhance everything, transform to real, and no makeup. The same docs list sharpness, smart grain, and skin detail sliders, which explains why the tweet says "skin that looks like skin."
Stock and install details
The asset panel is not just stock search. Magnific's demo says a creator's own Magnific generations are searchable from Photoshop alongside the full stock library, matching the library split in Magnific's media-node docs: Upload, Assets, and Stock.
The linked [Magnific plugin page]plugin page says the Photoshop plugin runs on Windows and macOS, requires Photoshop 2024 v25.0 or later, needs an active internet connection while generating, and installs through a .ccx file via Creative Cloud. It signs into an existing Magnific account or a new free account, and results save back to Magnific history.
