Claude Duet tester reports local tools block further handoffs
LLMJunky reports that using local tools from a Claude Duet project prevents further local handoffs, forcing a project restart. He says plugin upload limits and browser logins make local execution necessary, and describes the issue as temporary after exchanges with the team.

TL;DR
- Local work can strand a Duet project: LLMJunky says moving work onto his computer blocks further handoffs, forcing him to recreate the project.
- Plugin upload limits and existing browser logins make cloud-only work impractical for him, according to his report.
- The tester later called the problem a “temporary issue” and praised the team’s responsiveness, without reporting that he had tested a fix.
Duet has its own cloud browser, but users cannot watch it work or take it over. Claude’s separate Projects workflow already supports sending individual task threads to a local computer through Remote Control.
Local handoffs
LLMJunky reported a particularly awkward failure: once some of a project’s work ran on his local machine, Duet could no longer hand off further tasks to that project. He said restoring the workflow meant recreating the project from scratch.
He cited two reasons for needing local execution:
- File-upload size limits in plugins.
- Websites where his local browser was already logged in.
His cloud-only workaround therefore excluded tools and authenticated sessions he actually needed.
Voice notes and local threads
LLMJunky wants to “drop a voice note” and have the agent figure out which threads to open. Manually managing remote sessions adds work he wants the agent to handle.
Anthropic’s Remote Control connects a phone or browser to a Claude Code session that continues running on the user’s computer.
In his comparison with Dots, he described these capabilities:
- Read the project and its shared memory.
- Create new threads and hand tasks to his local machine.
- Let him take over those threads locally and hand them back.
He also identified a boundary: Dots could not interact with existing threads.
He uses Dots daily, but still called the personal agents he had tried “deeply flawed”.
Fix status
In a follow-up, LLMJunky called the handoff problem temporary and said the team was moving quickly and responding to feedback. He also acknowledged that he could have skipped the original post’s “it sucks” wording.
After thanking the people responding, he described cross-device handoff as “the entire point” of a product like Duet. His posts did not give a release date for a fix.
Preview access and usage
Duet’s onboarding says an existing Claude account brings its tools, projects, chats, memory and skills into the app. The same screen notes that Duet counts toward Claude usage limits.
Anthropic’s access guide lists these research-preview terms:
- US accounts on Pro, Max or Ultra, admitted through a waitlist.
- No additional subscription charge during the preview.
- Usage drawn from the existing plan allowance, including background briefs and check-ins.
Team and Enterprise accounts are not included in the preview.
