Anthropic documents Claude’s redesigned interface and design system
Anthropic’s design team published details of Claude’s interface redesign. The overhaul changes panes and Artifact presentation while updating the design system to support agent-written interfaces.

TL;DR
- Claude’s redesign gives Artifacts more visual priority through tighter pane relationships and quieter colors, according to the design team’s walkthrough.
- About 400 icons were redrawn in a week, with the team targeting simpler shapes, more weight and better alignment.
- The overhaul extends to an “agentic and Claude-native” design system, which the team says should make coded interfaces look good by default.
Joel Lewenstein, who leads design at Anthropic, says one coworker couldn’t identify what had changed when the new sidebar appeared internally, but liked the result. His walkthrough also includes a voice-mode exploration for Duet, borrowing ideas already developed for Claude’s main app.
Sidebar and 400 redrawn icons
The walkthrough collects several months of interface work. The sidebar received new icons, better spacing and more legible fonts.
A week-long push redrew about 400 icons around four goals:
- Simpler shapes.
- More visual weight.
- Better alignment in sidebars and toolbars.
- A closer fit with Claude’s brand.
Artifacts in the right-hand pane
Anthropic tightened the relationship between panes and toned down colors across the app, giving work in the right-hand Artifact panel more prominence.
The team also extended the new iconography into a visual language for Artifacts throughout the app.
Claude’s Artifacts documentation describes two entry points for starting from a template:
- Select Output in the message box and choose a template.
- Pick a template in the Artifacts tab.
A Claude-native design system
Anthropic says the interface changes are baked into a fully overhauled design system, described as “agentic and Claude-native.” The ambitious bit is its stated goal: “anything anyone codes looks good by default.”
Lewenstein presents that as the intent behind the rebuild, without detailing component APIs or the mechanics of agent integration in this post.
A fighting-game UI made with Claude and GPT
In a separate experiment, creator trq212 used Claude and GPT for images while exploring an elemental fighting-game interface. Their frustration was that agents add “too many details,” although they liked the direction.
One alternative took a jumbotron-style approach. The post links to a Claude Artifact prototype alongside the interface demonstrations.
Duet’s swipe cards and Tasks
Duet, Anthropic’s personal-agent app, gets its own interaction experiments:
- Swipeable cards for decisions and delegation.
- Tasks as a core primitive for work the agent performs.
- Voice interactions adapted from the main Claude app into Duet’s visual language.
Pablo Stanley also shared a Duet design walkthrough, which Lewenstein links in his closing post.
Anthropic’s Duet announcement describes a waitlisted research preview starting with US Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers. It lists standalone iOS and Android apps alongside access on claude.ai.
