Grimes joins Gods Don't Give Gifts as Zayinth Alda
The filmmakers announced Grimes as Zayinth Alda in Gods Don't Give Gifts and described her voice performance and costume collaboration. The announcement also names Mike Majlak's role and discusses an Oscar campaign; Fable's follow-up replies characterize Grimes's performance as vocal only.

TL;DR
- Grimes voices Zayinth Alda in Gods Don’t Give Gifts, according to Fable’s casting confirmation and its reply about her performance.
- Grimes also helped shape Alda’s costumes and design, the announcement’s best creative detail, according to Fable’s account.
- The filmmakers are pursuing Best Animated Feature Oscar consideration, as stated in Fable’s announcement thread.
Grimes waived payment for the cameo, her spokesperson confirmed. The production also worked with model makers to lift restrictions on generating public figures so her likeness could appear in the film.
Grimes and Mike Majlak
Director Zack London, who posts as Gossip Goblin, introduced two cast members in the new preview:
- Grimes, also known as Claire Boucher: a disaffected NiiroCore aristocrat named Zayinth Alda.
- Mike Majlak: a vagrant who witnesses the rise of a prophet.
The film’s official synopsis describes Niiro Cradle, a world where consciousness can be transferred into synthetic bodies. Fable connects the story to contemporary promises that technology will cure cancer and eliminate the need for human labor.
Voice recording and costume design
Grimes’s acting contribution was a “vocal performance only”, Fable clarified. Her on-screen likeness is AI-generated.
London shared Variety’s interview detailing how the filmmakers adapted an existing role for her:
- Rewrite the character. London and co-writer Jacob Batchelor reshaped Alda around Grimes’s persona and dropped the British accent used elsewhere in the film’s world.
- Collaborate on the look. Grimes helped design Alda’s mechanical-looking mask. Fable says the collaboration also covered costumes, describing Alda as an aristocrat visiting East Cinder for a “dreamspool.”
- Record across continents. Grimes and her producer recorded her lines from her Los Angeles home, working with London in Stockholm and the film’s editor and sound engineer in Romania.
The human production team extends beyond the cast: IndieWire reports roughly 30 to 35 credited collaborators. A behind-the-scenes documentary in development will include the Foley artist doing practical sound work.
December 4 and Oscar screenings
The film is scheduled for a December 4 US theatrical release. Fable calls it a “Toy Story moment” in its pitch for Best Animated Feature consideration.
Fable has already held screenings aimed at Academy animation voters in New York and Los Angeles. A digital For Your Consideration campaign is scheduled to begin in late November, according to IndieWire’s reporting.
