TL;DR

  • X is moving creator payouts from Revenue Sharing to Original Content Rewards, with existing members earning through September 7 and applying from September 8, according to the email shown by bennash's rollout screenshot.
  • The visible eligibility screen asks for Premium, age 18+, 500 verified followers, and 500K Verified Home Timeline impressions in 90 days, with replies excluded, as shown in icreatelife's Creator Studio screenshot.
  • The 500K number is lower than the old 5M creator monetization wall, but GlennHasABeard's dashboard showed 253.7K progress toward that target and his follow-up framed the remaining gap as a 30-day sprint.
  • The rollout is live but uneven: AIandDesign's first screenshot showed a broken Original Content Rewards screen, while AIwithSynthia said they were eligible.
  • Creators read the change as an anti-farm reset, with AIandDesign calling out spammers and bots in one reply while petergyang asked whether AI slop was next.

The mirrored X Creators announcement gives the migration calendar: three final Revenue Sharing payouts, then September 8 access for existing members. Roo's guide adds the stricter qualified-impression definition, and techAU pulls out the 50% on-screen visibility rule. The April preview was already pointed at aggregators: TechCrunch reported that X had cut aggregator payouts to 60% for one cycle.

Creator Studio screen

Creators started finding a new Original Content Rewards entry inside Creator Studio, sometimes before the page loaded cleanly.

GlennHasABeard showed the route as Premium → Creator Studio → Original Content Rewards, with the program listed as “Coming Soon” beside active Revenue Sharing in his menu screenshots. AIandDesign said the section appeared in Creator Studio even without a notification in one reply, then said they met the requirements but still hit the error in another reply.

icreatelife kept pointing people back to the same checklist as it circulated, including a follow-up reply attached to the eligibility screen.

Eligibility checklist

The in-app checklist is the cleanest source for the new top-line requirements.

To enroll, the screen says an account must have:

  • Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business.
  • Age 18 or older.
  • At least 500 verified followers.
  • At least 500K Verified Home Timeline impressions in the last 90 days.
  • Reply impressions excluded from that count.

icreatelife noted that impressions from free accounts were already outside monetization math, but called 500K “actually a lot” in a reply about the threshold.

Revenue Sharing sunset

X is retiring the old payout program rather than letting both systems run in parallel.

The email in bennash's screenshot says Revenue Sharing retires effective September 7, 2026, creators keep earning through that date, and the final Revenue Sharing payout is scheduled for September 11. The mirrored X Creators announcement adds two scheduled Revenue Sharing payouts on August 14 and August 28 before the final September payout.

Existing Revenue Sharing members can apply for Original Content Rewards starting September 8, according to the same X Creators announcement and the in-app text shown by icreatelife's screenshot.

Qualified impressions

The lower headline target comes with a narrower counting unit.

Roo's guide says a qualified impression is a unique view from a Premium Basic, Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business subscriber on the Home Timeline, with at least 50% of the post visible. The same guide says repeat views, paid or promoted impressions, artificial views, and fraudulent impressions are removed before the count.

That visibility rule immediately got weird for long posts. aakashgupta asked whether a post truncated by “Show more” would be unpaid, then guessed the rule probably applied to the preview area rather than the hidden expanded text in his reply.

Originality filter

The creator reaction landed in one place fast: the new program is aimed at repost economics.

LLMJunky said monetization had “degraded the quality of posting” and read the new schema as a fix in his post. AIandDesign was blunter, saying current money was going to “spammers, bots, engagement farmers” in one reply and that X sounded tired of paying engagement farmers in another.

The open creator worry is where AI-generated filler lands. petergyang asked X Creators whether the company would “do something about creators posting ai slop” in his reply, while bilawalsidhu argued X still needed a Content ID-like system because copied videos, including his own, could be reuploaded and outperform the original in his complaint.

michaelmicasso read the same policy as a future without intrusive TikTok and YouTube compilation reposts in his note.

The 500K sprint

GlennHasABeard turned the new requirement into a public production target.

His screenshot showed 253.7K progress toward the 500K Verified Home Timeline impression requirement, and his post said he had 30 days to get roughly 250K more. He later posted a FlovaAI snail-race clip asking which snail would hit 500K first in the video post.

The money pressure looked manageable for some creator businesses. GlennHasABeard said most of his creator income comes from brand work in one reply, then said he needed to “buckle in and create a bunch” in another.

Reply exclusion changes the work for accounts built around conversation. nicklaunches said the replies exclusion would sting a lot of accounts in his reply, and GlennHasABeard said he had fallen out of regular posting habits after cutting back on art shares in his reply.

Subscriptions still have the old wall

One adjacent monetization screen did not appear to move with Original Content Rewards.

GlennHasABeard asked whether X might update Subscriptions requirements too. His screenshot still showed Subscriptions eligibility requiring 2,000 verified followers and 5M organic impressions in the past three months.
