OpenAI says Codex Pro plans remove five-hour usage limits
OpenAI says Pro 100, 200 and 500 offer 10×, 20× and 50× Plus usage without five-hour limits. It also says allowances doubled for Pro plans and Business 100.

TL;DR
- All three Pro tiers have no five-hour Codex usage limit, according to thsottiaux's clarification.
- Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 provide 10×, 20× and 50× Plus usage respectively, as reach_vb reiterated.
- The doubling covers Pro plans and Business 100, according to thsottiaux, with an exception for Pro 200 subscribers who already had the higher allowance.
Pro 200 is open to new subscriptions again, after OpenAI canceled a planned allowance cut. ChatGPT Work and Codex also draw from the same usage pool, so work in either product consumes that allowance.
Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500
The three tiers pair monthly prices from OpenAI's plan page with these Plus-relative allowances:
- Pro 100: $100/month, 10× Plus usage.
- Pro 200: $200/month, 20× Plus usage.
- Pro 500: $500/month, 50× Plus usage, with Ultrafast access.
thsottiaux also asked whether a “Pro 50” would make sense in a separate post.
Five-hour limits
Pro users can spend their allowance without waiting for another five-hour window, a scheduling benefit reach_vb described as using tokens “as and when you want.”
Burst-friendly scheduling is the standout perk. Pro still carries an included allowance under OpenAI's usage guide, with these boundaries:
- Remaining capacity: Settings → Usage displays the allowance and reset times.
- Task counts: An allowance does not correspond to a fixed number of messages or completed tasks.
- Consumption: Model choice, context size, reasoning effort, tool use and speed mode affect how much a task uses.
- Separate billing: API usage is billed separately at API rates.
Pro 200 allowance reversal
OpenAI's initial announcement described doubled usage across Pro plans and Business 100.
The October 29 release notes and current Pro documentation give a more specific account of the increase:
- Pro 100 and Pro 500: Twice their previous Work and Codex allowance.
- Pro 200, previously lower allowance: Doubled to match the higher allowance.
- Pro 200, already higher allowance: Unchanged. OpenAI canceled the reduction announced in its September 29 email.
- Existing subscribers: Updated allowances arrive automatically, without waiting for renewal.
- Plus: Usage is unchanged.
All Pro 200 subscribers now receive the same Work and Codex allowance, including users who cancel and later resubscribe. The monthly price remains $200, according to the same Pro documentation.
Codex review
Eito_Miyamura reported leaving Greptile over its bills and finding Codex review “just as good,” with reviews consuming the Codex subscription allowance. Their workflow splits the jobs:
- Development: Claude.
- Review: Codex.
Ultrafast consumption
Ultrafast is the extra feature on Pro 500 in reach_vb's breakdown. For GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol, OpenAI's usage guide specifies two consumption rates:
- Included allowance: Ultrafast consumes usage at 8× the selected model's Standard rate.
- Purchased credits: After the included allowance is exhausted, Ultrafast draws from the credit balance at 6× the selected model's Standard credit rate.
Buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 does not unlock Ultrafast, according to OpenAI's Pro documentation.
