Astra turns any video into a navigable 3D timeline

A creator’s tool uploads video and exposes frames through volumetric playback, time slices, opacity controls, synchronized playback, and 360-degree orbit export.

TL;DR

  • An Astra-made browser tool turns an uploaded clip into a rotatable 3.5D frame volume, according to LinusEkenstam's announcement.
  • The viewer exposes frame density, time-depth, opacity, future-frame visibility, time slices and synced playback in one surface, as LinusEkenstam's demo shows.
  • The same surface can export a full 360-degree orbit at a chosen tempo, then download it, per LinusEkenstam's export update.
  • Creator workflows are increasingly built around agents that plan, generate, inspect and patch individual shots, a loop rainisto described with Runway and Premiere connections.

The browser app takes any video, as LinusEkenstam's announcement puts it, and turns its frames into something to orbit. Elsewhere, God’s Eye View is an open-source browser project for navigating live data on a 3D globe, while FLORA’s September update added one-click video extension to each video node. c_valenzuelab gave this expanding class a compact name: “Generative video interfaces”.

Frame volume

The tool renders a dragged-in video as a rotatable volumetric display, where the clip’s frames can occupy depth as well as time. Its product is a manipulable view of existing footage.

  • Volume resolution: the number of frames represented in the volume.
  • Time-depth: the spacing of the clip through the display.
  • Pre-frame and post-frame opacity: separate visibility controls for frames around the current moment.
  • Future frames: a show-or-hide toggle.
  • Time-slice surfaces: a way to expose a cross-section through the stack.
  • Synced playback: conventional playback remains tied to the spatial view.

Orbit export

The viewer also produces a camera move from the volume. LinusEkenstam said users can set an orbit’s tempo, export a complete 360-degree rotation and download the result.

Patch requests

The same agent can sit upstream of generation rather than merely inside the viewer. rainisto connected Astra to BeatBandit MCP and Runway MCP, with Astra planning shots, running them, reviewing results and creating patches for broken sections instead of rerunning the full generation.

A Premiere UXP bridge sends the generated edits into Premiere. After a human revises the cut, Astra can inspect that edit, generate missing material and place it back into the timeline.

Per-shot JSON

_VVSVS used FLORA’s ChatGPT Astra integration to make a short film from initial images, then directed revisions in a custom site with feedback fields for each shot. The site exported JSON back to Astra for the next update.

The creator also specified preferred models, Seedance character references, image blending, multi-shot construction and edits timed to peaks in a supplied music track.

FLORA’s release notes describe its Extend action as a downstream generation that continues any video node, a product-level version of the same incremental-editing direction.

Twenty photos to a walkthrough

AmirMushich turned 20 OLX property-listing photos into a 3D space that can be walked through in Unreal Engine 5.8. For the exterior, he used Google Maps panoramas at the relevant coordinates.

When asked about the input, AmirMushich's reply said phone photos plus Codex or Claude Code could repeat the process, although it would take iterations.

DiffUI to Three.js

MengTo’s 41-minute tutorial separates website ideation from implementation.

  1. In DiffUI, he branches UI ideas, sections, logos and components.
  2. He uses “Copy for agent” to move the direction into Codex.
  3. In code, he adds transparent PNG layers, animation and three.js skills.

The DiffUI product page says the tool generates nine options in about 50 seconds, learns a style from uploaded screenshots and can turn finished designs into responsive code. MengTo framed this kind of work as a livelihood in a follow-up, and said elsewhere that Astra’s expense led him to switch to Opus 5 and Fable 5.1 for some tasks.

viktoroddy also shared a “Complete Tutorial Guide” for design and 3D creative work in Codex, while characterizing Astra as the strongest 3D design model, a personal assessment rather than a benchmark result.

The Frost

PurzBeats asked whether creators want facility with services or control and understanding of their creative pipeline, then posted a project labeled “CORLISS INSTITUTE / Office of Domestic Topology / THE FROST.” Its attached clip moves from a monochrome interface into a granular node editor.

Separately, lloydcreates posted a translucent apparatus that encloses a tiny “PRO AUDIO” screen, colored cube and chrome spheres.

Sound checks

Audio sits outside the demonstrated feedback loop. petergyang asked whether an Astra-like video editor can hear sound and catch audio problems.

The follow-up from petergyang called for AI “ears” rather than providing an answer.
