Official OpenAI sources describe the Codex app as supporting developer workflows such as parallel chats with worktrees, code review, terminals, local/remote environments, built-in browser, plugins, computer use, and mobile handoff; as of July 2026 OpenAI says the Codex app is merging into the new ChatGPT desktop app while Codex remains available as the coding-agent view.
