Midjourney V8.2 Edit combines skincare shots in 3-step workflow

• V8.2 Edit combines written changes with as many as four image references, plus inpainting, outpainting, personalization, moodboards, and srefs, according to Midjourney's launch post.
• Lloydcreates used Quick Edit to move from a beauty close-up to a directed water-splash retouch, then combined two images for a skincare-application frame lloydcreates's skincare thread and the two-image application example.
• A separate drip-product image came from a three-stage liquid composite, as lloydcreates's workflow describes.
• The early test also received an image-quality update: Midjourney's official quality note asked people who had trouble in the prior 24 hours to try again, while a r/midjourney post reported quality loss outside an edited area.

Midjourney's own example merges a flaming horse, floral sword, and glittering knight into one frame in Midjourney's visual demo. A pink-elephant sequence from gizakdag and a medieval-bestiary recipe from DrSadek_ show the test reaching from surreal art direction to black-and-grey linework, with DrSadek_'s earlier output showing one of the results.

Midjourney said it was opening testing of its first V8.2 image edit model, a capability set also announced by DavidSHolz.

The model's inputs break into four parts:

• Written instructions for image changes.
• Up to four image references in a generation, positioned as the replacement for Omni Reference.
• Brush-based inpainting for a specific region, plus outpainting to expand the canvas.
• Personalization, moodboards, and srefs, with Midjourney noting that moodboards and srefs may need extra prompt direction in this version.

The official release page lists four entry points: drag an image into the prompt bar, use Edit from an image lightbox, upload through the left-side Edit tab, or enter --edit url... in Discord. DavidSHolz added that dragging an image into Create with “attach to prompt” reaches the same system in a reply.

The team framed the rollout as open-ended testing. The Midjourney account said it did not know every capability yet, DavidSHolz asked people to share their reactions in an early reply, and another company reply said image orientation should not matter in a support response.

Lloydcreates made an initial beauty shot, switched it to Quick Edit, and used one prompt to specify the splash, expression, lighting, framing, and shadow cleanup lloydcreates's water-splash prompt.

The production brief splits into five controls:

• A large water splash on the right side of the face.
• A stoic expression.
• Lens flare and motion.
• An f/11 and 1/250s photographic treatment.
• A slight zoom-out and removal of heavy shadows.

For the next frame, lloydcreates combined two images in Quick Edit, then requested “dewy hydrated brown skin” and a finger spreading lotion on the cheekbone lloydcreates's two-image prompt. The same instruction asks for a naturally tilted head and removes the shoulder.

The result is a compact example of multi-image editing used for a product-action pose, rather than a subject swap or style reference.

Lloydcreates described the drip-product image as a three-step process built from liquid shots in the creator's workflow.

1. Generate the liquid source images.
2. Combine two of them in Quick Edit to make an intermediate shot.
3. Use that result to create the finished product image.

Midjourney described V8.2 Edit as related to V8.2 but using its own weights in a company reply. That distinction surfaces in its legacy-image behavior: the company said an edit of a v8.1 image may preserve v8.1 aesthetics unless --v 8.2 is specified in a support reply, while another response named --hd for HD output from an older v8.1 image in a resolution note.

Omni Reference remains a v7 fallback. Midjourney said V8 had never actually run it natively in an Omni Reference reply, while DavidSHolz called the new editor “strictly better” in a follow-up.

Midjourney published its image-quality update on August 29 and continued soliciting detail on failures in a feedback reply. The r/midjourney report describes a different outcome: after inpainting a comet and landscape, the poster said the untouched starry sky also degraded across subsequent edits.
